With a career spanning over four decades, he steps into this pivotal role at a time when Pakistan stands on the cusp of a technological renaissance in health sciences and emerging technologies. As Vice Chancellor, Dr. Baig is poised to guide IUHT toward becoming a global beacon of excellence, where cutting-edge health sciences converge with emerging technologies to address humanity’s most pressing challenges.

Prof. Baig is a distinguished molecular geneticist, biotechnologist, and academic leader whose contributions have profoundly shaped Pakistan’s scientific landscape. Holding a PhD in Biology, he has been trained at premier institutions worldwide, including postdoctoral fellowships at Duke University (USA) with collaborations and Research Professorship at Cologne Center for Genomics, Germany, Uppsala University, Sweden), Copenhagen University, Denmark, Lübeck University, Germany and Northwestern University, USA.

His illustrious career includes pivotal roles; supervision of numerous MPhil and PhD theses, and advanced research in human genetic disorders, functional genomics, and precision medicine. Chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), where he steered national science policy, funding initiatives, and capacity-building programs, Advisor to OIC-COMSTECH, Dean of Sciences at the Health Services Academy (HSA), and Professor in the Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences at Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi. His work has led to 161 high-impact publications, with an impressive h-index of 42 reflecting substantial citations.

Nationally recognized with Pakistan’s highest civil honors, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (FPAS), and Fellow of the Society for Novel and Rare Diseases (FSNARE). Dr. Baig has consistently bridged academia, policy, and industry. His leadership has secured international funding, established research divisions, and mentored generations of scientists, many of whom now hold prominent positions globally. A proponent of equity in science, he has championed accessible, context-specific solutions for low- and middle-income settings, ensuring that innovation serves the underserved.

Prof. Baig envisions IUHT a transformative institution that stands at the forefront of integrating health sciences with cutting-edge technologies, such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, genomics, regenerative medicine, allied health sciences and biotechnology to drive sustainable development and human well-being in Pakistan and beyond.
